Remembering returning customers (Growth plan)
Go to Apps → Caro → Widget design → More views → Behavior → Memory → Remember returning customers. Requires the Growth plan — shown locked with an Upgrade button on lower plans.

What it does
Unlike cross-visit memory (which only continues the current browser session's conversation), this setting lets Caro recall facts from a customer's past conversations entirely — even ones from days or weeks earlier, on a different visit. A customer who mentioned a preference or an unresolved issue previously doesn't have to repeat themselves.
How this differs from Customer notes & tags
This is easy to confuse with Customer notes & tags, a separate Growth-plan Action:
| Remember returning customers | Customer notes & tags | |
|---|---|---|
| What it does | Lets the AI recall facts to use in its own replies | Writes a conversation summary to the Shopify customer record for your team to read |
| Who it's for | The AI itself, during future conversations | Your team, reviewing the customer profile in Shopify |
They're complementary, not redundant — enabling both means the AI carries context forward and your team has a written trail on the customer's Shopify profile.
Why this requires identifying the customer
Recalling facts about a specific person only works if Caro can tell that today's visitor is the same person as before — typically via a logged-in Shopify customer account, or contact details captured earlier (see Lead capture form). An anonymous, never-identified visitor has nothing to link a memory to, no matter how this setting is configured.
