ChatGPT AI Ads Agent docs / Feature guides

The ads agent: skills, approvals and limits

The agent checks your ChatGPT ads and product feed every morning, writes a short note on what happened, and suggests what to change, each with the numbers behind it and what to expect. You choose how much it may do: ask you first, make small changes on its own, or run on full autopilot. Whatever you pick, it can't pass limits enforced by the app's code, and every change can be undone.

How it works

Every morning, in your store's time zone, the agent reads yesterday's and the last 7 days' results and writes the Agent's note on the Agent page: what you spent and sold, what it did, and what waits for you. Click Check now to run a check right away.

Each suggestion shows:

  • What it wants to change, for example "Lower Summer Sale's daily budget from 40 to 32".
  • Why, from your numbers: "In 7 days it spent 64 over 40 clicks and lost 22 after product costs."
  • What to expect: "Spends about 56 less a week while it isn't paying off."

Suggestions wait under Needs your OK. Click Approve and it's live in ChatGPT Ads, or Skip and the agent won't suggest it again this week. With several waiting, Approve the N small ones or Skip all N at once.

How much the agent may do

You choose in setup, or when the Agent page first asks How should your agent work?:

ChoiceWhat happensPlans
Ask me firstIt suggests every change with a reason. Nothing happens until you approve it.Every plan
Small changes on its ownSmall bid and budget moves happen by themselves; bigger ones wait for you.Growth and Pro
Full autopilotIt runs campaigns within your budget and limits, and tells you what it did.Pro
ManualYou run the ads yourself. The agent stays quiet (your own rules still run).Every plan

Change it any time on Agent → Skills (under For all of them, or skill by skill), or click Change in Settings → ChatGPT Ads → Agent. Each campaign can also have its own setting on its page. A campaign set to Me, by hand is never touched, whatever you choose here. In your first 30 days, anything big always waits for you.

The feed has its own setting (Manual, Agent suggests or Agent does it). See your product feed.

The 14 skills

Open Agent → Skills to turn each skill Off, Ask me or Auto, and change its numbers. Auto for a small skill needs Growth; for a big one (Start your first ads, Grow winners) it needs Pro.

Your ads

  • Start your first ads: when you have no campaign yet, puts together your first one: your best sellers (or every ready product), a daily budget that fits your monthly budget, in your country.
  • Stop wasted spend: turns off ads for a product that got 20 clicks (you choose) and spent more than its own price without a single sale.
  • Cut losing campaigns: after enough clicks, a campaign that loses money gets a lower bid or a smaller budget, or a pause when it's already at OpenAI's minimum. Starter and up.
  • Grow winners: a campaign that makes a profit and runs out of budget gets more, while your monthly budget has room. Starter and up.
  • Keep to your monthly budget: if the month is heading over your budget, the biggest daily budget comes down so it lands on target.
  • Write better ad titles: finds products whose title is too short for ChatGPT to match, and writes a clear ad title for a few at a time. Used in ChatGPT only. Starter and up.
  • Sales days: raises budgets for the sales you plan and puts them back when the sale ends. Growth and up.

Your feed

  • Skip sold-out products: adds a feed rule so sold-out products stop getting ads, and come back on their own when they're in stock.
  • Protect your margin: when enough products can't pay for their clicks, adds a price rule so your budget goes to products that can make money. Starter and up.
  • Find new markets: when you get enough orders from a country in a Shopify market without a ChatGPT feed, starts that market's feed (no money is spent). Starter and up.
  • Fix a failed feed: sends the feed again when OpenAI didn't accept the last one.

Watching and reporting

  • Morning note: writes a short note every morning: what happened yesterday, what it did and what waits for you.
  • Alerts: emails you when an ad is rejected, ads stop showing, the feed is turned down or sales stop reaching OpenAI. Growth and up.
  • Learn from results: checks every change a week later and stops repeating changes that made things worse in your store. Pro.

History and Undo

Agent → History lists every suggestion and what happened to it: waiting, approved by you, done by the agent, skipped, undone or expired. A week after each change, the agent checks how it worked: It worked, No clear change or It didn't help, with profit or spend the week before and after.

Click Undo to put back exactly what was there before. Activity shows every change to your ads: yours, the agent's, and ones made in OpenAI's Ads Manager.

Limits it never passes

These are enforced by the app's code, not by AI. The agent can't switch them off:

  • Monthly budget: it never plans to spend more than your monthly budget, and never raises budgets until you set one.
  • Daily cap: each campaign's daily budget is the most OpenAI spends on it a day, never under OpenAI's minimum.
  • Loss stop: checked every hour, on every plan. If the last 7 days lose more than your limit after product costs, every running campaign is paused at once (except ones you locked) and you get an email. Set it on Agent → Skills under Loss stop; a quarter of your monthly budget is a good start.
  • Bids: it never moves a bid more than 30% in a day.
  • Locks: it never touches a campaign or product you locked, or a campaign set to manual.
  • Undo: every change it makes can be undone in one click.
  • Feed: feed changes only touch the feed, never your Shopify products.

The AI proposes; these rules decide what's allowed.

It learns from you

Every Approve, Skip and Undo teaches the agent what you want:

  • Turn down a kind of suggestion 3 times in a row and it holds back for 2 weeks.
  • Turn down the same change for the same campaign or product twice and it stops suggesting that one for a month.
  • Approve one kind 5 times in a row and it offers to do those on its own.

Click Ask me again to clear what it learned for a skill.

Ask your agent

Ask in your own words, for example "What is losing me money?" or "Push my best sellers this week". The answer comes from your real numbers. Suggested changes wait for your OK and are checked against your limits. Answers can be wrong; nothing changes until you approve it.

Asking the agent comes with Growth and Pro.

The agent bar

On Home, Ads, Feed, Products and Profit, a bar shows what the agent is watching there and any change it suggests for that page. Click Why? for the reason, or Skills to change what it does.
