ChatGPT AI Ads Agent docs / Feature guides
Profit and reports
The Profit page shows what your ChatGPT ads really earned: sales from ads, minus what those products cost you, minus what you spent on ads. You see it by product, by campaign and by day, and next to it what OpenAI itself counts.
How profit is worked out
Profit = sales from ads − product cost − ad spend
- Sales from ads: Shopify orders that came from a ChatGPT ad click in the 30 days before. After discounts and refunds, without tax and shipping.
- Product cost: what the products you sold cost you, from Shopify's Cost per item.
- Ad spend: what OpenAI charged for your ads in the period.
The page also shows your return on ad spend ("every 1 spent brought back…") and how many buyers were new or returning customers.
When a product has no cost
Add Cost per item to your products in Shopify for exact profit. Where it's missing, the app uses your usual margin from setup (Settings → ChatGPT Ads → Goal and budget → Average margin), and the page says how much of the product cost is estimated. If a product has no cost and you haven't set a margin, the page warns that profit is too high.
Sales from ads, counted two ways
The Sales from ads, counted two ways card puts two numbers side by side:
- Matched to your Shopify orders: orders the app linked to a ChatGPT ad click itself, either because the shopper landed from an ad or because they clicked an ad in the same browser in the 30 days before buying.
- Counted by OpenAI: the sales OpenAI credits to its ads, including people who saw an ad and bought later.
They rarely match exactly. Profit uses the first one. The more orders OpenAI receives through tracking, the better its count and its targeting.
By product, campaign and day
Under Show profit by, choose:
- By product: what each product spent, sold and earned, with a verdict: Winner, Learning, Losing money or No data yet.
- By campaign: spend, orders, sales and profit for each campaign, with OpenAI counts next to them.
- By day: sales from ads and ad spend for each day.
Pick the Period: 7 days, This month, 30 days or Last month. Click Export CSV to download the numbers.
The page also shows Sales ChatGPT sent you for free: visits and orders from ChatGPT answers and other AI assistants, without an ad.

Holdout tests
Some sales that ads get credit for would have happened anyway. A holdout test tells you how much the ads really add:
- On Profit, under Do ads really add sales?, choose the Test length: 2 or 4 weeks.
- Click Start the test. Half your products in ads, picked at random, have their ads turned off; the other half keep them. You need at least 6 products in ads.
- When the test ends, ads come back on by themselves (a product you turned off yourself stays off). You can Stop early any time.
The result compares all sales of each half, from ads or not, with the same number of days before the test: for example "Ads added about 18% more sales to the products that kept them", or that the test couldn't tell.
Holdout tests come with Pro.
Share a report
Click Share report to create a read-only link to the Profit report for the chosen period: spend, sales, product costs and profit. Anyone with the link can see it but can't change anything, and no customer details are shown. Each link works for 30 days; Turn off stops it sooner.
Shared reports come with Pro.
Email reports
Set these in Settings → Email reports:
- Weekly report (every plan): Monday morning, what you spent, what you made, the agent's changes and what waits for you. Send me this week's report sends it now.
- Daily email (Growth and Pro): yesterday's spend, sales and profit, and the agent's note, every morning.
- Alerts: emails when something important happens to your ads.
