Feed rules, Profit check and Shopper test
Feed rules change what OpenAI gets from your store, never your Shopify products: stop advertising some products, keep others, or improve titles. Profit check shows which products can't pay for their clicks. Shopper test lets you type a shopper's question and see which of your products would fit. All three are tabs on the Feed page.
Feed rules
Each rule is one sentence: which products, and what to do with them. For example:
- Stop advertising products where the price is under 20.
- Stop advertising products where it has the tag "no-ads".
- Put the brand first in the titles of all products.
- Keep advertising products where it has the tag "bestseller".
Add a rule
- Open Feed → Rules.
- Pick a ready rule under Start with a goal and click Use this, or click New rule to build your own.
- Under Which products, add conditions on price, stock, margin, availability, tag, brand (vendor), product type, title or collection. Choose whether to match All of these or Any of these.
- Under Then, choose what happens: Stop advertising them, Keep advertising them, Put the brand first in the title, Add text before the title or Add text after the title.
- Check the preview: it shows how many products the rule changes right now, before anything is saved.
- Click Save rule. The feed is sent again straight away.
The ready rules: Skip low-price items, Skip sold-out products, Skip low-margin products, Skip the last few in stock, Skip a tag you choose, Put the brand first and Always advertise a tag.
How rules work
- Rules run in order, top to bottom. When two disagree, the lower one wins, so put exceptions (like "always advertise bestsellers") below the rule they undo. Use Move up and Move down to reorder.
- A stopped product stays in the feed, marked not for ads. That's how OpenAI is told to stop showing it.
- Turning a product's ads off on the Products page always wins over any rule.
- Rules the agent adds are marked Added by the agent, and you can edit or delete them like your own.

Profit check
Ads can't fix a product whose sale doesn't cover the clicks it takes. Feed → Profit check works out, for each product, the most it can pay for a click and still break even:
price × margin × how often a click buys
and sets that next to what a ChatGPT click has really cost you in the last 30 days.
- Clicks that buy: your own rate once you have 200 ad clicks; a typical 2% before that.
- Margin: from Shopify's "Cost per item", or your usual margin from Settings for products without a cost. Click Set your margin if it's missing.
Each product gets a verdict: Can't pay (each sale earns less than the clicks it takes), Only just (within 50% of the click price) or Fine. If low-priced products can't pay for a click, the page offers Add a price rule to stop advertising them, so your budget goes to products that make money.
The agent's Protect your margin skill can suggest or add this rule for you. See the ads agent.
Shopper test
ChatGPT shows a product ad next to its answer when a product in your feed fits the question. Feed → Shopper test lets you try it:
- Type what a shopper might ask ChatGPT, for example "a warm waterproof jacket for hiking under $150", or pick one of the examples.
- Click Test.
You see:
- Your products that fit, shown as ad cards, each marked fits well or fits in part (and its ads are off if you turned them off).
- Add these for a better match: tips for products that should fit but whose title or description doesn't say so.
- Missing from your feed: what shoppers ask for that none of your products covers.
This is our estimate from your feed. OpenAI's own matching isn't public, so use it as a guide. Without an AI model set up, products are ranked by the words they share with the question.
Which plans
Profit check and Shopper test come with Starter, Growth and Pro. Feed rules are on every plan, with the limits above. See the pricing page.
