ChatGPT AI Ads Agent docs / Feature guides
Create ads, ad titles and automation rules
In ChatGPT, your product is the ad: its photo, title, short description and price, from your feed. You don't write ads. To advertise, you create a campaign: pick what to promote, the country, a daily budget and how to bid. Every campaign starts paused, so nothing spends until you launch it.
Campaigns run in your own ChatGPT Ads account. Your ad spend is paid to OpenAI, separately from the app's plan.
Let the agent start your first ads
If you have no campaign yet, the agent's Start your first ads skill puts one together for you: your best sellers (or every ready product), a daily budget that fits your monthly budget, in your country. It waits on the Agent page under Needs your OK with the numbers behind it. Approve creates the campaign at OpenAI and starts it; Undo archives it. See the ads agent.
Create a campaign yourself
- Open Ads and click New campaign (or Start your first ads if you have none).
- What to promote:
- All products (recommended): OpenAI shows the ones that fit each conversation.
- A ready-made set, when your store has products for it: Best sellers (most sold in 90 days), New arrivals (added in the last 30 days), On sale (with a sale price) or Ad winners (made a profit from ads in the last 30 days).
- One collection: pick a collection to focus the budget on.
- Budget and where:
- Daily budget: the most OpenAI spends a day on this campaign. The app shows OpenAI's minimum and about what it adds up to in a month. Your monthly budget and loss stop still apply.
- Market, if you have more than one market feed: the campaign shows in that market's countries, with its prices and language. Otherwise choose the country under Show ads in.
- How to bid: you pay per click.
- Automatic (recommended): OpenAI gets you the most clicks for your budget.
- Set my max bid: pay at most this much for a click.
- Name it if you like (or leave it empty and the app names it), then click Create campaign.
Launch, pause and change
The campaign is created paused. Check the details, then click Launch campaign. Ads start within minutes once OpenAI approves them.
On a campaign's page you can also:
- Pause and Resume it. Its settings and history are kept.
- Change its budget, bid, countries or name, then Save changes. Changes go straight to OpenAI.
- Choose Who runs it: Me, by hand (the agent never changes it), The agent suggests, I approve, or The agent runs it (small changes on their own, bigger ones still wait for you).
- Lock this campaign: the agent never touches it, whatever its mode.
- Duplicate it (the copy starts paused) or Archive campaign to stop it for good.
- See Activity: every change by you, the agent or in Ads Manager, with what it was before.
Campaigns made in Ads Manager show in the list too, marked Made in Ads Manager.

Ad titles
ChatGPT matches shoppers' questions to product titles, so clear titles get shown and clicked more. Open Ad titles:
- Click Write titles for N products. AI writes a title for each product that says what it is, the brand and what matters for choosing it, using only facts from your product.
- For each one, edit if you like (up to 150 characters), then click Use this title or Keep the current one.
An ad title is used only in what's sent to ChatGPT. Your product in Shopify keeps its own title, and Use Shopify title switches back any time. Approved titles go out with the next feed update.
The same page shows Each campaign's ad: OpenAI's review (Approved, In review or Rejected), anything stopping it from showing, How product titles show (Product title or Brand: product title) and Preview in ChatGPT. You can also switch Let OpenAI rewrite my ads on or off.
AI ad titles come with Starter and up, and share the AI fixes allowance (Starter 100 a period; Growth and Pro unlimited, fair use).
Title tests
Not sure a new title is better? Click Test it against the current title. The current title runs one week, the new one the next (a product shows one title at a time). The one shoppers click more often stays; with no clear winner, the current title stays. Click Stop test to end it early.
Title tests come with Growth and Pro.
Sales calendar
Plan your sale days on Ads → Sales calendar: click Add a sale, or pick a known day like Black Friday – Cyber Monday, Christmas or Diwali. Set the First day, Last day and Budget boost. On the first day, running campaigns get more daily budget (except locked or manual ones); the day after the last day, budgets go back.
The boost must fit your monthly budget, or add Extra budget for the sale. If there's no room, nothing is raised and the sale shows Needs budget.
The sales calendar comes with Growth and Pro.
Your own automation rules
On Agent → Your rules, make your own automatic decisions, such as "When a product has spent more than 40 with no orders over the last 7 days, turn off its ads." Click Add a rule, or start from a common one: Turn off products that don't sell, Spend less on campaigns that lose money, Grow campaigns that pay off or Tell me about best sellers.
Each rule looks at a product or campaign's spend, orders, profit, return on spend, sales or clicks over a number of days, then can turn off a product's ads, pause the campaign, raise or lower its daily budget, or just email you. Choose Ask me first or Do it automatically. Rules are checked every morning under the same limits as the agent: nothing locked or manual is touched, and budgets stay inside your monthly budget.
