Customer audiences
Audiences use your own Shopify customers to spend smarter: stop paying for people who just bought, bid more for people who buy again, and win back customers who drifted away. The app builds each audience from your customers, sends it to OpenAI and puts it on your campaigns. It refreshes every night, with nothing to upload. Audiences come with the Pro plan.
Turn on audiences
- Open Ads and click Audiences.
- The first time, the app asks to read your customers: click Allow in Shopify.
- Switch on the audiences you want. Each one is built straight away, then refreshed every night.
Switch one off and it's taken off your campaigns.
The four audiences

For past and top customers, set how much more to bid under Bid for them (+20% to start).
Audience size
Recent buyers works for any store size: leaving people out has no minimum.
The other three show ads to people, so OpenAI uses them only once about 25,000 people match. Until then the audience shows Too small and waits; nothing changes in your ads. Each audience shows how many people were sent and OpenAI's matched range.
Privacy
- Marketing consent: higher bids and win-back use only customers who agreed to marketing. Recent buyers are only ever left out.
- Hashed emails: only emails are sent, hashed (SHA-256) before they leave the app's server. OpenAI never gets a plain address from the app.
- Nothing stored: customers are read from Shopify at each update and forgotten. Nothing personal is stored in the app.
- Not in the EEA or Switzerland: OpenAI doesn't allow customer audiences for ads shown there, so they're used only on campaigns elsewhere.
