Assigning a channel to an agent

How to change which agent handles a channel, and how to share a channel across multiple contexts.

Each channel has a Default AI Agent — the agent that handles conversations on that channel. Here's how to set it, change it, and what to keep in mind.

Setting the default agent

When you create a channel from inside an agent's Channels tab, the default agent is automatically set to that agent. You can change it at any time.

To change the default agent on an existing channel:

  1. Go to your agent → Channels tab
  2. Click on the channel you want to update
  3. The config drawer opens — find the Default AI Agent dropdown
  4. Select a different agent and save

The change takes effect immediately — any new conversations on that channel will be handled by the newly selected agent.

Why you'd change the default agent

Seasonal or campaign-specific agents — you might have a general support agent most of the year, but switch to a special sale-focused agent during a promotion.

Testing a new agent — create a new agent with updated training, then switch a low-traffic channel to it first and monitor quality before switching your main channel.

Consolidating channels — if you have multiple website widgets pointing to different agents and want to simplify, you can point them all at one agent by updating the default.

Telegram and the 1-to-1 constraint

Telegram is slightly different from other channels because of how Telegram's webhook system works. Each bot token can only register one webhook — so each Telegram bot maps to exactly one Vosaire channel.

If you want to switch which agent handles a Telegram channel, just update the Default AI Agent setting on that channel. You don't need to create a new bot or re-register the webhook.

If you want a second Telegram bot for a different purpose, create a new bot via BotFather and set up a new channel in Vosaire.

Routing rules

For more advanced control — routing different types of conversations to different agents — you can set up routing rules on a channel. Routing rules evaluate conditions (like keywords in the message, time of day, or user attributes) and assign the conversation to a specific agent accordingly.

See Setting up routing rules for details on how to configure these.
