ChatGPT AI Ads Agent docs / Getting started

Install the app and start your first ChatGPT ads

Install the app, choose a plan, and follow three setup steps: connect your ad account, turn on tracking, and set your goal and monthly budget. Your products start going to ChatGPT as soon as your ad account is connected. Home then shows a short checklist of what's left, ending with your first ads. You need a ChatGPT Ads account (ChatGPT Ads Manager) to connect. You don't need to write code or edit your theme by hand.

Vosaire: ChatGPT AI Ads Agent is coming soon to the Shopify App Store. Until then, the app page lets you sign up to hear when it's ready. Vosaire is not affiliated with OpenAI.

1. Choose a plan

Right after install, Shopify shows the app's plan page. Pick Free or a paid plan. Starter, Growth and Pro each have a 14-day free trial, and Shopify bills the plan on your regular Shopify invoice. Setup continues the moment you choose. See Plans, trials and limits.

2. Connect your ad account

The first step is Connect your ad account. Paste your Advertiser API key and click Continue. The app checks the key with OpenAI, stores it encrypted, and never shows it again.

Where to find it in ChatGPT Ads Manager:

  1. Open Settings, then General.
  2. Scroll to API Keys and click Create New Key. Name it "Vosaire".
  3. Copy the key right away: OpenAI shows it only once.
  4. Paste it in the app.

This is the Advertiser API key, not a conversion key. Conversion keys are a separate list (Manage conversion keys, on the same page). OpenAI keys start with "sk-".

Nothing changes in your ad account until you choose what the agent may do, on the Agent page.

Your product feed starts by itself. Once the key is saved, the app creates a product feed in your ad account and sends your products. OpenAI can take from a few minutes to a few hours to process them. After that, the feed is sent again every day with your latest prices, stock and new products. You'll find it in Ads Manager under Tools, then Feeds.

If OpenAI hasn't switched feeds on for your ad account yet, the app gives you a feed link to add once by hand: in Ads Manager, open Tools, then Feeds, click Create Feed, give it a name, choose Hosted URL, paste the link and click Create. The app keeps the link fresh every day. See Product feed and markets.

3. Turn on tracking

The second step is Turn on tracking. It asks for two things that both live under Conversions in Ads Manager:

  • Pixel ID: lets OpenAI see when a shopper from ChatGPT visits and views products. Only the ID: the app adds the pixel to your store for you.
  • Conversions API key (recommended): sends orders, add-to-carts and checkouts from the app's server, so sales still count when a browser blocks the pixel. The app sends a test event with it, then stores it encrypted.

Where to find them in Ads Manager:

  1. Open Conversions. On the Data Source tab, the Pixel ID is the code under your pixel's name. No pixel yet? Click Create, then Data Source: it gets an ID right away.
  2. For the Conversions API key, click the key icon next to Create (or Settings, General, Manage conversion keys).
  3. Create a key and copy it right away: OpenAI shows it only once. If you lose it, create a new one.
  4. Paste both in the app.

Tracking can wait. Click Do this later to move on, and Home keeps what's missing on its checklist. Until the Conversions API key is added, sales blocked by browsers aren't counted. See Tracking: pixel and Conversions API.

4. Set your goal and monthly budget

The last step is What should the agent aim for?

  1. Enter your Monthly budget. The agent never plans to spend more than this. OpenAI has a minimum daily budget per campaign (the app shows it when it knows your currency, for example about $25 a day in USD). If your budget is below a full month at that minimum, the agent runs ads on fewer days to stay within it.
  2. Choose a Goal: Don't lose money, Grow sales at a target return (you set a target such as 3×), or Get the most sales.
  3. Optionally add an Average margin. The app uses product cost from Shopify where it's set; this is for products without a cost.
  4. Click Finish setup.

The app runs its checks with OpenAI and takes you to Home. You can change the budget and goal later in Settings → ChatGPT Ads.

5. Finish what's left on Home

Home shows Finish setting up with a count of what's done. Each item takes about a minute:

  • Switch on the pixel in your theme. Click Open theme editor, switch on ChatGPT Ads pixel under App embeds, then Save. Orders are counted either way, through the Conversions API.
  • Add your Pixel ID and Add your Conversions API key, if you skipped them.
  • Choose how your agent works. The first time you open the Agent page, it asks how the agent should work: Ask me first, Small changes on its own, Full autopilot or Manual. Pick one and click Start the agent. You can change this any time, skill by skill. See The ads agent.
  • Start your first ads. Click Start ads (or Start your first ads), pick what to promote (all products or one collection), a daily budget, the country and how to bid, then Create campaign.

6. Launch your first campaign

Every campaign is created paused, so nothing spends until you launch it. Check the details and click Launch campaign. Ads start within minutes once OpenAI approves them. You don't write ads for your products: ChatGPT shows each product's photo, title, price and link from your feed. See Create ads and ad titles.

What to do next

Give a new campaign a few days and a few hundred clicks before judging it. The agent waits for that too. Then read How the app works for a tour of every page.
