The Best AI Chatbot Apps for Shopify in 2026 (Ranked and Compared)

The Best AI Chatbot Apps for Shopify in 2026 (Ranked and Compared)

Search "best Shopify AI chatbot apps" and you'll get a dozen nearly-identical lists — and if you check who publishes them, a pattern shows up fast: Zipchat's own blog ranks Zipchat near the top, Tidio's own blog does the same for Tidio, Chatbase's does the same for Chatbase. That's not a conspiracy, it's just how content marketing works in this category. It also means most of what's out there isn't actually a comparison — it's a pitch with a numbered list on top.

This one is ranked by something you can verify yourself: real install-base signal (Shopify App Store review counts, the same proxy Shopify's own developer docs point to when there's no public install-count API), with pricing and features pulled directly from each app's own listing. Full sourcing and dated verification lives on our comparison hub, which this list draws from — including our own numbers, checked the same way.

What Shopify itself says to check before you install one

Before the list, it's worth grounding this in criteria that don't come from a competing app's marketing page. Shopify's own guide to picking an AI chatbot lays out what actually separates a real tool from a thin one:

  • Real data integration — does it "pull order status, shipping information, and inventory directly from Shopify," or is it working off a static file that goes stale?
  • Total cost, not sticker price — "you've got the subscription cost to consider as well as the initial setup... and maintenance," not just the number on the pricing page.
  • Escalation to a human — a chatbot has to "recognize when a conversation needs a real person" for disputes, damaged orders, or a frustrated customer, and hand off instead of guessing.
  • Multi-channel reach — does it work everywhere a customer already is, or just in one widget on one page?
  • Data policy and compliance — a clear answer on SOC 2 / GDPR handling, not silence.

Keep those five in mind — they're the questions worth asking about every app below, including us.

The Shopify AI chatbot apps worth comparing in 2026

One honesty note up front, before any ranking: Vosaire is brand new on the Shopify App Store (approved 2026-08-28), so it has no review history yet. That's a real fact, but it isn't a useful comparison axis — a launch date isn't a feature. Review count tells you how long an app has been collecting installs, not whether it's actually the better pick for your store today, so we're not using it to decide where Vosaire sits in this list.

What we do rank the established apps by is Shopify App Store review count (verified 2026-09-11/12) — the closest public proxy for real installed base, and a genuinely useful signal for apps that have had years to earn it. Vosaire sits third in the table below, placed there on price and feature depth rather than a review history it hasn't had time to build — everything else is ordered by that real, sourced install count.

Chatty is the most-installed AI chatbot on the Shopify App Store by a wide margin, and its rating holds up — live inventory awareness, customer memory, and round-robin team routing are all real. The catch: usage is metered in conversations with a flat $0.40 overage charge once you're past your plan's cap, and every paid tier is also capped by product catalog size on top of that — two separate ceilings to plan around, not one.

Tidio has genuine developer depth — a real API, "Smart Actions" that can call out to Zendesk, Intercom, or Salesforce mid-conversation. But full coverage isn't one plan, it's three: $29/mo for live chat, $29/mo for its Flows automation builder, and $39/mo for the actual AI (Lyro), $97/mo combined before a further $16.67/mo to remove Tidio's own branding.

Vosaire is the only app here with an honestly flat, all-inclusive price: $15.99/mo for 2,000 AI replies, no overage fee, ever, no matter how busy a month gets. It's also the only one in this table where that one price covers every channel at once — storefront widget, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Gmail — rather than metering AI separately per channel the way several apps above and below do. The honest tradeoff: it's new, so judge it on what it actually does today (next section) rather than a review history it hasn't had time to build yet.

Gorgias is a mature, deeply-featured helpdesk with draft orders, refunds, and a real API — the $10 sticker price is the misleading part. AI-resolved conversations are billed separately at $1.00 each ($1.50 on overage) on top of the ticket fee, so a merchant automating real volume routinely pays several times the advertised entry price.

Moose is the one flat-rate outlier of the established apps — unlimited AI replies on every tier, including free, and that claim holds up under scrutiny. The tradeoff: its marketed "omnichannel inbox" (WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger) turns out to be click-to-redirect buttons, not real inbox integration, per its own help docs.

SmartBot swaps the usual conversation cap for a product-catalog cap instead — unlimited chats, but gated by how many products you're training it on (500 to 20,000 depending on tier). Real API access only shows up on an Enterprise tier that costs more than 3x what the mid-tier plans charge.

Willdesk bundles real multi-store support into its Basic plan for $16.90/mo — genuinely rare at that price. But it meters usage across three separate fees at once (conversations, tracked orders, and a pricier "AI conversations" charge), and that Basic plan's conversation pool is shared thin across every connected store.

Chatway prices its base plan by human seat, not AI usage — but turning the AI agent on adds a $0.50-per-resolved-conversation fee once you're past 10 free per month, a real usage meter its listing doesn't lead with.

Commslayer has one of the most generous free tiers in the category (300 conversations, 300 AI messages, unlimited seats) and native actions for subscription platforms like Recharge and Skio that most competitors don't touch. Past the free tier, pricing scales continuously with per-unit overage on top.

What actually separates a chatbot from an agent — and where Vosaire sits

Most of the apps above can answer a question. Fewer can actually finish the transaction inside the same conversation instead of describing what the shopper could go do themselves — the real distinction we went deeper on in what is a Shopify AI agent. Vosaire's Sales Agent and Support Agent are built specifically to close that gap:

  • Builds a real cart and checkout link live in the conversation — not a product link, an actual Shopify draft order.
  • Issues a real, single-use discount code against your store's own discount rules, not a canned promo.
  • Checks live inventory and captures a back-in-stock request the moment something's sold out.
  • Looks up a real order — after verifying identity first for anything sensitive.
  • Remembers a returning shopper across visits and channels, and writes real marketing-consent opt-ins into Shopify the moment a customer agrees.

None of that requires switching tools mid-conversation or paying a separate per-action fee — it's included in the one flat reply allowance, on every paid plan. If you want to see it running before installing anything, installing the chat widget takes a few minutes, no theme edits required.

The three pricing models hiding behind the install count

Once you look past the App Store review number, every app in this category — Vosaire included — falls into one of three billing shapes:

  1. Flat-rate, no overage — a fixed monthly allowance, and that's the whole bill. Vosaire and Moose are the clearest examples here.
  2. Metered with an overage fee — an included allowance, then a per-unit charge once you cross it. This is the majority (Chatty, Willdesk, Chatway, Commslayer).
  3. Stacked or per-resolution fees — usage billed separately from the base subscription, sometimes on top of a per-seat fee too (Tidio, Gorgias).

We went deeper on this exact split — with the actual dollar math per app — in how much a Shopify chatbot really costs in 2026. The short version: the entry price on an App Store listing tells you almost nothing about what you'll actually pay once real traffic hits it.

Where the free default fits — and where it stops

Shopify Inbox is worth naming on its own, separate from the ranked list above, because it isn't really competing for an install decision — every Shopify store gets it by default, which is exactly why it has far more reviews (5,798) than anything else in this category. Its free "Inbox agent" is genuinely more capable than it used to be: it can now auto-reply using your catalog, inventory, and policies, not just draft suggestions for a human to send.

Where it stops: no persisted memory for a shopper who isn't signed into an account, no developer API, no cart-recovery or back-in-stock automation, and no unified view across more than one store. It's a real, honest starting point — see how usage and plan limits get tracked once you outgrow it in understanding usage this month — not a permanent stopping point once support volume actually grows.

The honest takeaway

Install count tells you who's been around the longest and who's built the most trust — it's a real signal, and every app in the ranked table above earned theirs. It doesn't tell you what you'll actually pay once usage kicks in, or whether the AI can finish a sale instead of just describing one.

If you're evaluating any app on this list, run it against Shopify's own five criteria above. Then try Vosaire on your own store — the Free plan is $0/month, no credit card required, so there's no reason to take our word for any of this either. Compare it directly against whatever you're using today, or see everything the Sales Agent and Support Agent can do.
